Laws – State License Regulations on Telebehavioral Health
Highlights: The state licensing regulations for telebehavioral health can be difficult to find. The primary reason is the lack of consistency among states and professions on the terminology used for these online services. While telebehavioral health has existed for more than 50 years, states are only recently creating regulations due to the increase in the use of these services. The primary goal of telebehavioral health regulations is to ensure safe and effective treatment for those located in the state’s jurisdiction. Keep in mind that the regulations pertaining to those located in the state at the time of service may not be related to the patient/client’s permanent residence. There are many states that have not yet published regulations related to telebehavioral health.
